I like how this lion’s picture carries on below the rim. The cream, green and brown tassels take their colours from the leaves and mane above. Beside the flat felt shapes, their loose threads give the shade a different edge. The little smile still holds the centre of it all.

The fringe is quite generous for a lion with such a small, simple face. That makes me smile. I enjoy giving the portrait a little flourish without losing the rosy cheeks or fine whiskers. There can be care in every small detail of a child’s room, and still room for something a little playful.
